6 Ways to Correctly Care For Your Wood Watch - Part 2

3. Exposure To Extreme Temperatures – Whether the watch is wood or not, it is important to keep your watch out of extreme hot or cold temperatures. With wood watches this is even crucial because wood can splinter, become brittle, or dry out when exposed to these temperatures. This is a natural reaction of the wood material and is not a defect, and we highly recommend not leaving your wood watch out in your car in the middle of winter or summer. These extreme temperatures can also cause the movement of the watch to slow and cause your time to be off.

4. Water – Although Tmbr. wood watches can withstand the typical splash of water from washing your hands or doing the dishes, we do not recommend complete submersion of our watching in water. Wood is a natural and organic material and can deteriorate if overexposed to water like many other things. If your wood watch is submerged completely in water we suggest drying it with a soft cotton towel. All tmbr. wood watches have a thin water resistant resin applied to them to help preserve the quality of the wood and repel water.

5. Storage – It is important to store your wood watch properly whether you are traveling or taking it off before you go to bed. If you simply put your watch in your suitcase with no layer of protection, the likelihood of the wood getting scratch or chipped is high. When traveling or storing your tmbr. watch while traveling or a lengthy period of time, we suggest storing it in the green suede storage pouch that it arrived in. If you take your watch off to sleep (we recommend you do) then do not put on the nightstand where it can easily be knocked off, water spilled on it, or your dog could snatch it. Put it somewhere safe like on top of your dresser, in a dresser drawer, or a watch box. This will help preserve your watch and keep it safe from a potential “accident.”

6. Battery Replacement – Every 1-2 years we suggest replacing the battery in your watch. We suggest taking the watch to your local watch repair or jewelry shop for replacement. The watch needs to have the correct battery to keep it functioning and if the wrong watch battery is used, it can cause more harm than good.
